Description
This dataset includes ADCP (Acoustic Doppler current profiler) current measurements from the Gulf of Finland, Baltic Sea. Measurements cover years 2009 to 2015 and they are continous though winter season from April 2013 onwards. This dataset covers 23 different deployments from up to three simultaneous location. Results and detailed description of these measurements are published in article ”Observed currents from the Gulf of Finland – description of the ADCP dataset (2009–2015)” by Kanarik, H., Miettunen, E., Berg, H., Tuomi, L., Alenius, P., and Hietala, R (submitted to Geophysica).
Methods
Measurements are done using a bottom-mounted Workhorse Sentinel ADCP by Teledyne RD Instruments (300 kHz, except for ADCP1_13b.csv that used 600 kHz Workhorse Sentinel ADCP). For detailed information on the exact quality control procedure and the threshold values used, see Kanarik et al. (2018, Section 3, https://doi.org/10.3390/jmse6040122). For information on possible quality issues or the description of the measurement site deployment depths etc., see Kanarik et al. (submitted to Geophysica).
Complementing CTD measurements were done in RV ARANDA using SBE911+ instrument by Sea-Bird.

The locations of the measurements are listed in Kanarik et al. (submitted to Geophysica) Table 1. Datafiles named after the station ID and year when measurements started (Kanarik et al. submitted to Geophysica, Table A1, in Appendix A). Files include values of current magnitude, direction and U and V components at each measurement depth as well as the measured pressure (depth) at deployment depth from the seafloor. In the beginning of each file, there is information on the deployment and quality control procedures (Kanarik et al. submitted to Geophysica, Table 2).
Additional measurements of current W component, temperature at the deployment depth, and quality information variables are available upon request from the corresponding author.
This dataset is complemented with "CTD_dataset.zip" dataset that includes CTD measurements from the RV Aranda during deployment and/or retrieval of the ADCP from the sea. This dataset includes all together 27 files: 10 measurements by ADCP1 and ADCP2, and 7 measurements by ADCP3 between years 2009 and 2014. CTD measurements inculde variables for Pressure [db], Temperature [ITS-90, deg C], Voltage 0, Oxygen, SBE 43 [ml/l], Scans Per Bin, Salinity, Practical [PSU], Density [sigma-theta, Kg/m^3], and Depth [salt water, m].
