Description

Holds the output from UCLALES-SALSA describing cumulus/convective cloud simulations subject to hygroscopic seeding with the purpose to artificially enhance rainfall. The cloud simulation setup is idealized, but is based on the conditions observed at the United Arab Emirates. The model was run with a 300 m horizontal resolution and 100 m in the vertical. The data is analysed in the manuscript "Interaction between hygroscopic seeding and mixed-phase microphysics in convective clouds" currently in review for the Journal of Applied Meteorology and Climatology.

Table of contents

The data consist of 7 packages corresponding to the 7 model experiments analyzed in the associated paper as indicated in the file names. Inside the packages are the model data files in NetCDF format, where each experiment consists of two runs, indicated by keyword CTRL and SEED in the filenames. The former is the control simulation without seeding injection, while the latter is an alternative realization from identical initial state with seeding injection present. The variables listed in this record are divided into sets of 3 files, with suffixes "atm" (general atmospheric variables), "cloud" (cloud related variables) and "num" (particle number concentrations and diameters). The data is available via the external URL.
