Particulate ship emissions measured at Utö May 2022 - October 2023
Description
This dataset of ship exhaus plumes has been collected at the Utö Atmospheric and Marine Research station from May 2022 to October 2023. It is linked to a publication submitted in Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics in September 2026. The methods for collecting the data are described in the publication (link provided later).
Below are the explanations for the data columns.
Units are expressed in square brackets.
The number in the end of the column refers to the wavelength in nanometers.
"Area" refers to the integral of the measured concentration over the plume duration.
"ER" refers to the emission rate (i.e., measured area of the pollutant divided by the measured area of CO2 concentration)
"N", "Abs", "Sca", "eBC", and "BrC" refer to number concentration, absorption coefficient, scattering coefficient, equivalent black carbon, and brown carbon, respectively.
ID: Plume ID in the format of yyyymmdd_ndx, where the ndx in the number of the plume observed that day, []

shipSpeed: Speed of the ship based on AIS data and trajectory analysis, [kn]
shipTrueHeading: True heading of the ship based on AIS data and trajectory analysis, [degrees]

shipLat: Ship latitude coordinate based on AIS data and trajectory analysis, [degrees]
