Description

Concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and intermediate volatile organic compounds (IVCOs) at three different sites (traffic, residential, urban background) in Helsinki between January and February 2022.

Methods (English)

At the traffic site (Mäkelänkatu supersite), concentrations were measured with an in situ thermal desorption gas chromatograph coupled to a mass spectometer (TD-GC-MS): TurboMatrix 350 TD unit equipped with online sampling accessory and Tenax-TA & Carbopack B dual absorbent cold trap, Clarus 680 GC (with an Elite-5MS column, 60m x 0.25mm (i.d.) and film thickness 0.25µm), and Clarus SQ 8 T MS (all from PerkinElmer).

At the residential (Tapanila) site and the urban background (SMEAR III) site, VOCs and IVOCs were sampled offline on dual absorbent tubes (Tenax-TA & Carbopack B) with a modified sequential tube sampler (STS 25 Unit, PerkinElmer) and analysed with a similar TD-GC-MS as described above.
