Description

This data contains model data from EC-Earth, CESM and MPI-ESM from simulations made for "Laakso, A., Visioni, D., Niemeier, U., Tilmes, S., and Kokkola, H.: Dependency of the impacts of geoengineering on the stratospheric sulfur injection strategy part 2: How changes in the hydrological cycle depend on injection rates and model?, EGUsphere [preprint], https://doi.org/10.5194/egusphere-2023-2520, 2023." Two sets of simulations were conducted using three ESMs: 1) Regression simulations, in which abrupt changes in CO2 concentration or stratospheric aerosols from preindustrial levels were applied to quantify global mean fast, temperature-independent climate responses and their quasi-linear temperature dependence; and 2) Equilibrium simulations, where varying magnitudes of aerosol injections were used to offset the radiative forcing caused by increased CO2 levels, aiming to investigate how precipitation depends on the magnitude of these injections.

Table of contents

This includes following datasets: Aerosol optical properties of stratospheric aerosol used in each ESM: -Aero_optical_properties_CESM.tar.gz, Aero_optical_properties_MPIESM.tar.gz, Aero_optical_properties_EcEarth.tar.gz Global yearly mean values of atmospheric outputs of each model: -Globalmeans_CESM.tar.gz, Globalmeans_MPIESM.tar.gz and Globalmeans_ECEARTH.tar.gz Some yearly and montly mean outputs of atmospheric variabeles for specific years analyzed in study: Yearlyandmonthlymeans_CESM.tar.gz, Yearlyandmonthlymeans_MPIESM.tar.gz, Yearlyandmonthlymeans_ECEARTH.tar.gz Available variables and their units depends on the ESM.
