Data descriptions
-------------------

This dataset includes road weather station measurements and road surface temperature
forecast data related to manuscript entitled "Effects of sky view factor and screening
on road surface temperature forecast accuracy in Finland". The manuscript will be
submitted to a scientific journal for publication.

Each folder contains ReaMe file for the folder's data.
Coordinates and station IDs can be found from the file "coordinates.txt"

local_horizons.txt
-----------------------
Contains local horizon angles calculated from National Land Survey of Finland’s (NLS)
laser scanning data
(https://www.maanmittauslaitos.fi/en/maps-and-spatial-data/expert-users/product-descriptions/laser-scanning-data)

Column Variable
1 station id
2 station name
3-> local horizon angels, starting from 0 degrees (north) and continuing with 1 degree steps in clockwise direction

Folders:

measurements
-----------------
Contains road weather station measurements used in the forecast verification.
Data is provided by Finnish Transport and Communication Agency (https://www.traficom.fi/en/)

MEPS_forecasts
-----------------
This folder contains NWP forecasts produced with MEPS ((MetCoOp Ensemble Prediction System )model
(cycle 40h1.2 2018-10-1 00Z - 2019-03-31 18Z, cycle 40h.1.2 2019-10-1 00Z - 2021-03-23 06Z,
cycle 43h2.1.1 2021-03-23 12Z - 2021-03-31 18Z). Only the control run is included.
Model runs are done as part of MetCoOp (Meteorological Co-operation on Operational Numerical Weather Prediction)
cooperation between Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Insitute, Norwegian Meteorological institute
and Finnish Meteorological Institute.

simulated_surface_temperatures
----------------
Contains surface temperature from road weather model simulations done
with different settings. The simulations were 3 days long but the files contain
data only from the last day that was used in the analysis.
The runs are done with Finnish Meteorological Institutes road weather model.
For more details of the road weather model see https://doi.org/10.1002/met.1486

verification_results
---------------------
Contains bias, RMSE, number of misses and number of false alarms for simulations
